Who decided to build the step pyramids?

The Pharaoh Djoser ( what a weird name, I would never want to be called that.) built a new design of pyramid called the step pyramid. (With the help of Imhotep, a ancient architect.) He built it because he wanted a unique pyramid for himself. Instead of a normal pyramid. ( I guess he wanted to be known as a powerful Pharaoh, for building the step pyramids. But that's just my guess.) :]

Cool Fact!

Ever wonder how the Egyptians leveled the ground to build the pyramids? The Egyptians would make the ground level by digging canals around the area where the pyramid was going to be. Then they would fill the canals with water and wherever the rock was above the water they would chip it off. This would take more than a month at the least. Next they would fill the canals with rock and then the ground would be level. (I wonder how they figured out how to do that.)

How the Pyramid idea came to the Pharoah's

The Pharaohs wanted a special burial place for themselves so they came up with the idea of a pyramid to protect the remains of there bodies from decaying and so they could have an afterlife. and also the pyramid would protect there belongings that they buried with them ( Like money, weapons, the book of the dead, and toys.) ( But me personally, I would rather be buried in a grave yard and decay quickly.) :]

The Egyptians were SMART!! They built the pyramids With no technology, they used tools like hammers, Shadufs, wedges, ropes (to pull the Big stones up the mud ramps they built to get up the pyramid.) The Egyptians didn't have much wood so all the wood they had went toward building the HUGE pyramids, They would cut the wood in half then roll the blocks of stone over them so it would be easier to pull them up the mud bridge. (there really smart..... I would never of thought of some of those tools and things to build the pyramids.)

These new pyramids were a lot cooler than the old pyramids. Because the step pyramids had six Steps going up to a total of 198 feet. But the other pyramids were only a triangle... (In my opinion Squares are better than triangles.) Also the step pyramids had these awesome burial chambers for the king which was buried with all his belongings. The chambers had these weird paintings on the wall that would tell about the Pharaoh's life and what he did during his life. Step pyramids also had this HUGE grand gallery room in the center of the pyramid. The step pyramid also had a Queens chamber, but she was not buried there. (Weird, right?) In the original plan that room was supposed to be for the Pharaoh but he changed his mind and built a bigger, and much better burial room.
